This is my set in lid project with a simple, straight base and matching lid. In order to make this project I had to practice opening twice and also using the calipers in order to create a lid that's the correct size for my pot. I glazed my project with multiple different values of the same color to create contrast and make the project more interesting. By glazing the lid two of the same colors used on the base it creates a sense of unity among the project. The different shades of blue/green that I used create a very calm, natural feel to the project.

For extra credit I made a bowl. This bowl is very tall and has fairly straightened edges. To create this project I practiced using a rib tool to pull the walls out into a rounded/widened shape. The round form of my project is emphasized by the line of color on the lip. By using the same color and type of line on the inside of the bowl as I did on the lip creates a sense of harmony throughout the entire project. The dark brown glaze and speckled effect of the clear glaze create a rustic feeling.
For my second choice project I made a smaller vase. It has a narrow base and widens at the very top with a tall lip. One skill I practiced while making this was compressing the lip because it does have such a tall and widened shape it was important that the lip stayed even and compressed. Texture is emphasized in this project because of the effect of using a sponge to apply a darker valued glazed over one of a lighter value. The contrasting values allow the sponged texture to really shine through. The dark color of the glaze along with the rough texture create almost a sad and mysterious mood to the project.
For my choice project I made a rounded vase. My vase has a narrow base and gets wider towards the middle and then narrows at the top again. One skill I practiced in order to make this was pulling the wall into a round shape. This project has a very unique form that is emphasized by the way I used color. The lines created by the glaze create a sense of movement and rhythm in the project. The light blue color along with the smooth curve of this project give it a soft and relaxed feeling.
This is my planter project, consisting of a tall and fairly straight top and a short, shallow bottom. In order to create this project I practiced opening twice. The outside of the project has a very dark value which contrast nicely with the light value on the inside of the project. The second opening of the project was made a specific size so that it would be accurate in proportion to the rest of the project, creating a sense of balance. The simplicity of the glaze allows you to focus on the more complex form. The sharp edges on this project give it a very stiff and rigid feel.
For my pulled handle project I made a mug. My mug has a very tall, rounded shape with a fairly large and rounded handle. In order to create this project I practiced pulling a handle. The way I applied the glaze with a sponge created texture. The dark value of the blue glaze contrasts nicely with the light value of the white glaze. The deep blue color is very smooth and feels very relaxed. The white glaze has some black specks in it that make it look a little more rough next to the smooth blue glaze.
My vase has a fairly wide shape that narrows at the base and has widened lip. In order to make this project I practiced choking. By choking my project I was able to make it taller and keep the walls thick as I pulled them farther up. Value is emphasized in my project with the contrast between the light green and the dark brown color on the lip and inside. By having the darker color on the lip of my project I am able to put emphasis on the wide shape on the upper half of the vase. Like many of my projects, the colors used really give the project a natural feel. The different textures created by glazes with different finishes makes the project feel very organic.
This is my second bowl. It is a wider bowl that is glazed all one color with an element of simplicity. One skill I practiced in ordered to make this project was using the rib tool to pull the walls outward in order to create the round edges of the bowl. The form of this bowl is kind of shallow yet wide and round. The simplicity of the form of the bowl along with the simplicity of the glaze create a sense of balance for the entire project. The shade of green glaze on my bowl creates a very natural feel, reminding viewers of a dense forest.
